The Band is made to keep outside the stomach and restrict the food intake but in case of Erosion the lap band break the stomach wall and enters the stomach. In past times the band was tighter placed so caused the erosion but now the band can be adjustable so can be lose after the surgery so that the erosion can be prevented.

- Stop taking tea, coffee or similar products for at least 3 months after lap band surgery.
- Don’t take the carbonated drinks since these causes gas and increase the size of stomach due to carbonation.
- For the first 5 to 6 weeks keep on the modified liquid diet.
- Take 2 ounces of protein a day.
- Use the food processor to shredded the food before eating.
- Do not take any starchy food.

Since Lap band erosion is not an emergency, you don’t need to become overreact on this but I the access port site is infected then the port must be removed properly. You need to use the antibiotics for the bacterial infection and prompt removal of the port. After that the band can be removed semi-electively. To remove an eroded lap band is not an easy step and sometimes require an open approach. In many cases it has been seen that the surgeon can install a new lap band during the same surgery that he is removing the eroded band.
