In general the Gastrointestinal Perforation or also known as Gastric Perforation is a intra-operative gastric injury where complete penetration of the wall of stomach, small intestine or large bowel, resulting in intestinal contents that flows into the abdominal cavity. Due to this the chances of bacterial contamination becomes very high inside the cavity of stomach. This is the condition known as Peritonitis. The Gastric Perforation inside stomach can make the chemical peritonitis due to leaked gastric band. It is a very serious condition that can not be taken lightly and must require the emergency medical care.


The Symptoms of Gastric Perforation results in severe abdominal pain which increases if your body moves around, nausea and vomiting. If you want to know if you have this problem or not, the X-rays will help you as the free gas will be visible in the abdominal cavity and the perforation can often be seen using CT (computed tomography). Chances of Infection are also high in this surgery. Your White blood cells will also often elevated and also the symptom of wooden belly is visible i.e. abdominal wall rigidity.


Treatment

If the problem of Gastric Perforation occurs while doing the Lap band Surgery, the doctors may have to switch to an open method. It can have serious complications too that can cause the removal of the lap band including:-

  1. Band Slippage on stomach tissue.
  2. Erosion of Band in stomach.
  3. Infection and breakage of injection port.

Best way to get rid of it is the lap band removal through laparoscopically but sometimes it requires open surgery so be prepared and mind set before choosing the Lap Band Surgery.
